I’m a trichologist – people scream at my controversial tip but I’ve new baby hairs & my locks AREN’T falling out anymore
A TRICHOLOGIST shared the controversial rule she swears by for growing out her locks.
The haircare expert showed off the impressive results of her divisive rule.
In her viral video, TikTok user Daniela (@camelglow) explained the benefits to her hack.
Despite the general rule of thumb against frequent cleaning, she opts to wash her hair every day.
According to most experts, you should refrain from washing your hair too often.
The professionals at Curl Revolution broke down the top reasons why you shouldn’t over-wash your locks.
“Washing your hair every day can strip away more oil than it should from your hair, which leaves your hair drier and more likely to break,” they explained.
They added that it can also make your locks more prone to split ends by drying it out.
The experts explained that thinning out is often another result of over-washing.
However, Daniela reported the opposite effect with her daily washing schedule.
She showed her audience “what really happened to my hair when I started washing it every day.”
The haircare pro reported less loss of hair in each shower after increasing her washes.
Daniela also revealed that she has experiences increased growth in previously sparse areas.
She showed her followers the “new baby hairs” that had grown in thick.
Daniela explained that shampooing removes dirt, oil, and product build-up on the scalp.
As a result, this allows a clean scalp for healthier hair growth and reduced loss.
TikTok users shared their thoughts on the controversial advice in the comments section.
The 4 stages of the hair growth cycle
Hair experts at Philip Kingsley shared the four stages of the hair growtn cycle are: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen
Anagen Phase: Also known as the ‘Growth Phase’ or ‘Active Phase’, is when the cells in the root of your hair are most rapidly dividing so more new hair is formed.
During the Anagen Phase, hair grows around half an inch a month [about six inches a year], and faster in the summer than in winter.
This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts an average of three to five years.
Catagen Phase: Following the Anagen Phase, your hair cycle enters a short transitional phase known as the Catagen Phase, which signals the end of active hair growth and cuts individual hairs off from the blood supply and from the cells that produce new hair.
Approximately three percent of all hairs are in this stage at any time and it lasts for around 10 days.
Telogen Phase: The third stage of your natural hair growth cycle is the Telogen Phase, a resting period when strands remain in their follicles but are not actively growing.
An estimate of 10-15 percent of your hairs are in the Telogen Phase at any given moment.
The Telogen Phase lasts around three months or 100 days.
Exogen Phase: The final stage of the Hair Growth Cycle, when individual hair strands are released from their follicles and fall out.
Now the whole process begins again.
“I feel like the whole hair training trend was a huge scam, I can’t do dirty hair,” wrote one viewer.
“My scalp gets so itchy and I do notice way more hair falling [out], a lot of dermatologists have said keeping it dirty is worse.”
“I have BEEN SAYING THIS! Clogged hair follicles make NO SENSE!” agreed another follower.
“That’s true because I wash my hair every day and the hair loss has decreased,” commented a third person.
“I’m so glad you said this, I am so sick and tired of the self proclaimed ‘hair experts’ that preach that no one should wash their hair more often than one to two times a week,” said another viewer.
