‘We had an object-throwing barney’ David Jason reveals truth behind ‘feud’ with Only Fools co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst
SIR DAVID Jason has opened up on his ‘feud’ with Only Fools and Horses co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst as he reveals they THREW objects at each other.
The sitcom legend, 84, previously sparked rumours of a backstage fallout with his BBC co-star.
The pair are adored by millions for their roles in Only Fools and Horses[/caption] Sir David has revealed there was never a fallout – though the pair did stage a fake argument on set[/caption]Writing in his new memoir – titled My Life – Sir David has revealed their apparent fallout did not actually happen.
He penned: “With Nick, I feel slightly to blame for some of this fake ‘feud’ news, because what’s often used as supporting evidence in these stories is a tale I told in an earlier volume of these memoirs, about Nick and me having an enormous fight during a location shoot for Only Fools.
“And we did have a huge row that day – a truly spectacular one. The kind of all-out, shouting, swearing, object-throwing barney that relationships often don’t come back from.”
However, their apparent furious outburst at each other was completely stage, purely for their own entertainment.
Sir David said a rainy day had resulted in delays to the Only Fools shoot, leading him and Nicholas coming up with ways to entertain themselves.
They eventually played out a fight, which left members of the crew scrambling to intervene.
He added: “Eventually somebody went off and summoned the producer to come and see if he could work his personal magic, at which point Nick and I realised we had probably pushed it as far as we could.”
Meanwhile, the TV star – who has also starred in other hits such as Open All Hours – revealed his ‘upset’ at only being remembered for Only Fools and Horses.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Sir David said: “That Derek Trotter thing, who’s like a bit of a ghost that comes along behind me like A Christmas Carol.
“‘Haunted’ is perhaps too [strong], no. He’s with me all the time, meaning whether we call it haunted, I do say that he’s on my back all the time, because wherever I go, people recognise me as the character and you’re always getting people saying ‘Lovely jubbly!’ and all of that.
“Which only hangs me back, only upsets me slightly, because that seems to be the only thing that people remember me for.”
