Teenager sacked for wearing trainers to work wins almost £30,000

0

A TEENAGER sacked for wearing trainers to work has won almost £30,000.

Elizabeth Benassi sued her former employers for victimisation after she was “unfairly tackled” over the mistake.

The employment adviser, 18 at the time, alleged that she was treated like a child and said other staff who breached the dress code were not similarly sanctioned.

Ms Benassi was dismissed after three months with Maximus UK Service.

An employment tribunal in Croydon heard she was the youngest in the team in Plumstead, South East London, and even felt the need to ask if she could use the toilet.

Judge Eoin Fowell said it created a hostile working environment for her.

He added: “No allowance was made for the fact that she was new.

“It indicates a desire to find fault.”

He awarded £29,187 for victimisation but her claim for harassment owing to her age was dismissed.
