Sky teases launch of new ‘smarter, brighter and better than ever’ mystery product coming in weeks

0

SKY has teased the launch of a brand new product coming to telly fans very soon.

The broadcasting giant has sent media invites out for a mystery unveiling that’s said to be “smarter, brighter and better than ever”.

Sky Q was launched back in 2016

Sky‘s wide portfolio includes TV, broadband and mobile so it could be within any.

Or it could be an entirely new product line – the firm has recently ventured into smart security with home protection gadgets.

But the “brighter” element may fit into something more TV related.

It’s been almost nine years since Sky launched its last main satellite-based product, Sky Q.

However, the company has been shifting to internet-based TV with Sky Glass.

Sky Glass, which packs everything into the TV itself with no box, was released back in October 2021.

Then a year later, a follow-up Sky Stream device, providing the same service as Sky Glass but within a tiny puck, was launched.

The only other big launch since then has been an accessory, Sky Live, that allows people to play motion-based games and video chat with friends when plugged into Sky Glass.

Either way, we may not have long to wait.

Details are expected to be unveiled in a matter of weeks.

This all comes just weeks after Sky launched a new cheaper TV subscription tier, costing only 50p a day.

Sky Essential TV is £15 per month, with access to Netflix, Discovery+ and a range of channels including Sky Atlantic.

And next year, there will be some big changes to the TV landscape with the arrival of the Max streaming service in the UK.

Max is owned by Warner Bros Discovery, which produces hit HBO series including House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

Sky’s long-running deal with Warner Bros Discovery seemed under threat with plans to introduce Max across the pond in 2026 when the current arrangement expires.

But at the start of December it was revealed that the pair had finally struck a fresh agreement that will keep the shows on Sky for now while also launching Max in April 2026.

Max will go ahead as a standalone app service but Sky customers will get access to an ad-supported version at no extra cost.
