Man, 60, ‘sexually assaulted elderly woman and left bed-bound OAP fighting for life after breaking into care home’
A VULNERABLE elderly woman was left fighting for her life and another was sexually assaulted by a burglar at a care home, a court heard.
Clement Meade, 60, launched an “offending spree” at the West London address on New Year’s Eve, prosecutors said.
He was seen by staff trying to take a TV from a flat on site shortly before 9pm, Uxbridge Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
Meade allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly female resident before offering another £500 for sex.
He is then accused of committing grievous bodily harm on a bed-bound disabled woman after entering her room shortly afterwards.
The woman, in her late 60s, was found unclothed with injuries to her arm and rushed to hospital in a serious condition, it was heard.
Prosecutor Benjamin Eason said: “The carried out what the Crown is calling an offending spree.
“Most concerning is he entered a vulnerable disabled woman’s flat with learning difficulties with extremely limited mobility.
“The defendant was seen leaving the flat with items including TV in a trolley.
“Staff found the woman undressed with injuries.
“She is currently in hospital in a life threatening condition with sepsis. Her liveability is in question.”
It was also heard that the defendant threw a punch at a member of staff in his 30s once he was challenged.
Defending, Kate Hughes told the judge that Meason was attempting to visit a friend at the care home to retrieve some old clothes.
Meason was charged with GBH with intent, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, burglary and assault by beating.
He appeared dazed in the dock wearing a grey tracksuit with unkempt hair, and waved to his son who sat in the public gallery.
Meason, of Southall, West London, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the short hearing.
District Judge Kathryn Verghis denied the defendant bail and he was remanded in custody to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on January 30.
It comes after police arrested a man, 60, on suspicion of rape at the same care home on the night of January 31.
The Metropolitan Police said inquiries were ongoing.
