I bleach my hair but managed to grow it 7 inches with three changes – I get zero breakage and no fly-aways now either
MANY people believe it’s impossible to grow out your hair while bleaching it.
However, one woman shared the three steps she swears by for boosting growth under any conditions.
In her viral video, TikTok user Mila Jaye (@vanilla_swirlxx) talked her followers through each of the hacks.
She revealed that she managed to grow her hair out seven inches while still bleaching it “every few months.”
The TikToker explained that she “used to have a whole bunch of flyaways and breakage” as a result of the constant bleaching.
Mila told her audience that the steps helped to promote overall hair health, hair growth, and the actual thickness and overall look of your hair.
For her first step, she highlighted the importance of applying oil to your hair.
She revealed that she uses castor oil on her hair for “at least three to six hours before showering.”
The TikToker said that she slicks her locks back in a bun while she goes about her daily tasks.
“This has improved my overall hair health so much, I don’t get any breakage when I style my hair or bleach my hair and it’s all because of the oil,” Mila said.
She described her hair as feeling “so healthy and so shiny all because of this oil.”
According to the haircare enthusiast, the second thing she does to promote growth is “prioritise hair health outside of the shower.”
She explained that once her hair is wet, she focuses on making sure it stays strong and healthy until the next wash.
To do this, she focuses on deep conditioning, which she said “makes your hair so shiny, so soft, it smells so good, and so strong.”
She also applies Moroccan oil to her hair when it is damp after showering.
Mila explained that this oil “makes it shiny and makes sure your ends don’t break any further.”
She pointed out that it helped to transform her own ends, which she estimated had been bleached “probably 100 times.”
Hair re-growth FAQs
Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.
How long does it take for hair to grow back?
Hair grows, on average, half an inch a month. You cannot speed this up.
Do rosemary oil and scalp massages work?
Oils do not promote hair growth. In terms of rosemary oil, the current trend stems from one small study carried out on 50 men in 2015. No women were involved, and the study compared the effects of 2 per cent minoxidil to Rosemary oil. 2 per cent minoxidil doesn’t do much for
male pattern hair loss anyway, so the results were not very impressive. Oils do serve a purpose in conditioning hair treatments though. They help add shine and smooth the hair cuticle to lock-in moisture and improve combability. Scalp massages alone won’t cure hair loss, but it can help relax you, aid in lymphatic drainage, exfoliate and help topicals penetrate.

“You need to make sure you’re moisturizing the ends of your hair and it gives it that nice shine,” she told her followers.
Finally, she recommended sleeping with your hair in a “protective style” to prevent breakage.
The TikToker gave the example of loosely braiding your locks before bed.
