House pro shares 3 clever ways to get wet bedding dry inside without using a tumble dryer or dehumidifier
WASHING your bed sheets are always a pain but the winter weather makes it so much worse.
Not only is changing the bedsheets a chore most of us hate, but the cold weather means it can take days for them to air dry.
When drying them on airer they take up lots of room in your house, and bedding can easily cause mould to grow in your home and lead to unpleasant odours if not dried quickly.
Most of us opt to dry them indoors to avoid the use of the tumble dryer which can be costly with energy bill hikes.
Fortunately, James Higgins, an eucalyptus bedding expert and CEO of Ethical Bedding, has shared three laundry methods for drying bed sheets quickly.
And the best part is that none of the methods need a tumble dryer or dehumidifier to work.
Start Early
James first recommended doing your laundry first thing in the morning.
The expert explained: “Naturally the inside of the home will heat up over the day and will give you better chances of air drying faster.”
He also warned against drying your sheets overnight as temperatures in the home drop considerably.
Top Spot
James also revealed the number one spot to put your laundry so it dries quickly.
He said that the kitchen was your best bet as the kitchen tends to be the “warmest part of the house” due to the oven and frequent foot traffic.
James added: “If you cook with the oven often you can use the excess heat to dry your sheets in the room at the same time.”
Putting your drying rack next to the oven door will allow the excess heat to speed up the drying process,” the expert continued.
Keeping Toasty
For those who don’t want to use an airer, James says the airing cupboard is the best place to hang bedsheets to dry.
The expert explained that it emits a substantial amount of warmth throughout the day, aiding in a “quicker drying time for laundry”.
He added: “This ensures you aren’t using any electricity in the process.”
It can also be effective to hang bedding near a radiator if the heating is on, but not over the radiator.
More winter laundry tips
Tackling laundry in the winter can be a challenge, but these handy tips can help you stay on top of it:
- Use a Dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying area to speed up the drying process and prevent dampness.
- Spin Cycle Boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, reducing drying time.
- Indoor Drying Rack: Invest in a good-quality indoor drying rack and position it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated room.
- Tumble Dryer Balls: Add tumble dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
- Space-Saving Hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable washing line to maximise indoor drying space.
- Microfibre Towels: Lay microfibre towels over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
- Partially Dry Outside: On dry days, hang clothes outside for a short period before bringing them in to finish drying.
