M1 closed in both directions as body found in undergrowth next to motorway with probe launched into mysterious death
THE M1 was closed in both directions after a body was found in undergrowth next to the motorway.
Part of the major road, between junctions five and six near Watford, was closed at around 3pm on Monday following the discovery of the body.
Police said the death was being treated as “unexplained” and that drivers had faced severe delays throughout the evening rush hour.
By 6:30pm the southbound section had reopened, with the northbound route reopening at just after 10pm on Monday night.
As of this morning, one of the three northbound lanes remains closed.
A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said on Monday: “We were contacted earlier this afternoon after the body of a man was found in undergrowth at the side of the motorway between junctions five and six.
“Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances of the man’s death, which are currently unexplained, and will remain in the area this evening and tomorrow.”
