ROYAL PAGAILLE (2.30 Haydock, nap)

He has an incredible record at Haydock with five wins from six runs including his second Grade 1 Lancashire Chase here last time out. He got back up on the line to beat Grey Dawning and the long straight here plays to his strengths. He won this in 2022 off top weight and can repeat the feat in ideal conditions.

HAALAND (10.15 Lingfield, nb)

He looks ready to score after making his challenge a little too late when half a length away at Kempton last time. He sees out this trip strongly and has winning form around here.

KOTMASK (2.15 Ascot, treble)

He has been in good form around here and landed a convincing win last time. His jumping has been better and this trip suits. He was behind Martator when they met in November but he’s 8lb better off at the weights today and that could prove vital.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

ASCOT

1.05

ROCKINASTORM jumped brilliantly when following up his Ludlow win in style at Wetherby last time.

He stays and likes any ground while the handicapper has been more than fair with a 3lb rise. He looks hard to beat.

Unanswered Prayers stays all day and kept going over 3m4f at Sandown last month.

That was another decent effort after his Southern National win and he won’t lack for stamina. He may just be tapped for toe though.

In D’Or scored on chase debut at Taunton and has more to come under his owner-rider.

Annsam has been hurdling with little success and will be happy chasing, especially going right-handed.

Kitty’s Light is 2lb below his last win but has been out of form.

1.40

KARGESE was in flying form last season, finishing second in the Triumph Hurdle before going close in an Aintree Grade 1.

She finished by taking top honours at Punchestown over this trip and likes a little juice in the ground.

She’s gone well fresh and looks hard to stop.

Take No Chances was a good handicap third at Cheltenham last time and has a Listed win on her CV.

She can win the battle for second ahead of Ooh Betty who had a bit left in the tank when scoring at Kempton’s Christmas meeting.

Casa No Mento didn’t take to chasing at Bangor and has a bit to prove now.

2.15

KOTMASK has been in good form around here and landed a convincing win last time.

His jumping has been better and this trip suits. He was behind Martator when they met in November but he’s 8lb better off at the weights today and that could prove vital.

Martator looks a big threat again although his rising mark gives him more to find.

Flegmatik ran well for a long way in the Silver Cup here last time and this drop in trip from 2lb lower gives him an each-way chance if able to repeat.

Bad is frustrating as he has a decent engine but usually finishes his races weakly.

It was the same case when second at Southwell last time and the first-time blinkers need to help.

Similar comments apply to Hitman who travelled strongly again at Aintree last time before settling for second.

2.50

KAMSINAS has run well on both starts this season, scoring at Aintree in October before a close-up fourth in a big field at Haydock last time.

He likes this trip and doesn’t mind what the ground does. He can go close for Fergal O’Brien in this hot handicap.

Doddiethegreat’s best form would make him hard to beat but we haven’t seen that for a little while.

He didn’t take to chasing before being hampered and pulled up on his hurdles comeback on Boxing Day.

He’s better than that and has come down the weights, which makes him dangerous.

Stablemate Bo Zenith returned from 20 months off with a promising third in good company at Cheltenham.

He stayed on strongly up the hill and should enjoy this step up in distance.

Altobelli ran well on comeback at Doncaster last month and tries cheekpieces here which could give him that little boost he needs to turn places into a win.

Georgi Girl is another of many in with a shout after a good effort at Cheltenham last time.

She comes from an in-form yard and won’t be far away again.

3.32

JONBON arguably put in a career-best peformance when winning the Tingle Creek by eight lengths at Sandown last time.

He put that race to bed a long way from home and clocked a good time. He has never been beaten away from Cheltenham and has eight Grade 1s on his CV.

It doesn’t make sense to back him at odds-on against Energumene but I fancy him to come out on top.

There may not be much in it though as Willie Mullins’ dual Champion Chaser ran a cracker when scoring at Cork by 10 lengths last month.

He was returning from 20 months off and you would expect him to improve fitness-wise.

He’s 11 now but this trip suits and he can give the British hope a race.

Edwardstone ran a cracker giving lumps of weight away at Kempton last time and will run his usual honest race.

But he’s just short of top level these days, as is Boothill who loves Ascot but has now fallen three times in his past five runs which has to be a worry.

HAYDOCK

1.55

ROYAL INFANTRY looked a machine when charging through the mud to win here last month.

He loved the conditions and won by more than eight lengths without breaking sweat.

This is a higher grade but there’s a lot more to come and the rest need to make major improvement.

Dedicated Hero was useful in bumpers and got off the mark over hurdles at Kelso last time. He handles soft ground well and is another who looks on the upgrade.

Walking On A Dream didn’t have a lot to beat when going in at Ayr 16 days ago.

He is bred to need further than this but the conditions will bring his stamina into play and he could nick the forecast spot.

Cloonainra comes over from Ireland after a good handicap second at Leopardstown on Boxing Day.

She would have won with a clearer run and is in the place picture on this hike in class.

Peacenik loved the mud when winning at Exeter but this is tougher.

2.30

ROYAL PAGAILLE has an incredible record at Haydock with five wins from six runs including his second Grade 1 Lancashire Chase here last time out.

He got back up on the line to beat Grey Dawning and the long straight here plays to his strengths. H

e won this in 2022 off top weight and can repeat the feat in ideal conditions.

Trelawne can be a tricky ride but he kicked off this season with a game win here before hanging left at Ascot last time.

He’s not guaranteed to see out this trip but will be a major danger if he is on a ‘going day’.

Mr Vango was favourite for the Welsh National after his impressive Sandown win last month but connections felt Chepstow came too soon.

He’s had another three weeks off and his staying power in heavy ground will be a major asset.

Imagine is interesting going up in trip with Harry Derham back in good form.

He is a Grade 2 winner on soft ground over two miles and looks on a fair mark but he has his stamina to prove.

3.05

TINY TETLEY took a step forward when winning over this trip at Taunton and gets the nod in this wide-open contest.

A 4lb rise for that battling win looks fair, he handles heavy ground and his yard is in good form.

Good Luck Charm got a good ride from today’s 10lb claiming jockey when winning at Sandown last month.

Heavy ground suits and she’ll go close if seeing out this longer distance.

Tune In A Box was just pipped at Chepstow on Welsh National day and has no stamina issues.

A 3lb rise gives him another each-way chance.

Lossiemouth (not the Willie Mullins one!) came back from three years off to run a promising race at Newbury in November.

He’s a Grade 2 winner at best and can figure if he’s over that comeback.

Punta Del Este was a solid fifth in similar company here last time out.

He finished well over 2m 3f so may enjoy this longer distance.

Kilbarry Hill is rising nicely through the ranks and made it three in a row at Uttoxeter last time. He deserves this hike in class.
