A COUPLE in an open relationship have shared the backlash they often receive online.
They explained that their bisexuality has also proven to be an issue for people.
Speaking on the Love Don’t Judge YouTube channel, Renn and her husband Durden detailed the reactions they have received for their open relationship.
The couple, who make a point of keeping details about their children offline, have even had strangers online threaten to contact social services over their lifestyle.
They revealed that they met on Tinder and became instantly “inseparable.”
A year-and-a-half into their relationship, Durden came out as bisexual to his openly bi wife.
The couple credit their “deep conversations” with creating a safe space for Durden.
They decided to further explore their sexualities by opening up their relationship.
“We would have experiences with single men and have experiences with single women and give each other the freedom to explore that,” Renn explained.
Despite nobody batting an eyelid at her sexuality, her husband received judgement online for getting with other men.
People told Renn her husband was “100% gay” and some even sent them death threats.
As well as the online hate, the couple also faced a “rocky” start to their open relationship.
Renn admitted to struggling with jealousy while Durden said he actually enjoyed the feeling.
They also reflected on some of the initial rules they had when hooking up with strangers.
These included no kissing or eye contact during sex as well as no pet names.
However, they now meet other people together, enjoying monthly trips away.
They described the “hotel takeover” parties they attend, which involve “playrooms” where they can meet other couples.
What is polyamory?
Polyamory is the practice of having romantic relationships with more than one person at the same time, with the knowledge and consent of all parties.
It can refer to relationships where one person has multiple partners or spouses, or where all parties are in a relationship with each other, for example in a throuple.
According to You Gov, 6.8% of people in the UK have been in a polyamorous relationship.
However, the couple explained that they don’t plan on remaining open forever.
They both revealed that they will probably give up the lifestyle when they hit 70.
YouTube users shared their thoughts on the relationship in the comments section.
“I love them. I believe their relationship will last because they do something that most miserable people don’t do, communicate without judgment and keeping it honest,” wrote one viewer.
“People more focused on having sex than actual happiness and populating the earth. This is getting odd honestly,” said another subscriber.
“That’s nasty and not safe at all, what was the point of getting married?” asked a third person.
