Big boost to Freeview successor as it adds 8 new channels – check your TV now for more documentaries and true crime
A FREEVIEW successor is set to impress as it adds eight new channels – check your TV now for more documentaries and true crime.
Customers with a Freely-enabled smart TV can stream live and demand TV all in one place without having to switch apps.
As part of its major 2025 update, viewers can enjoy new channels such as True Crime, PBS America and GB News.
True Crime incorporates shows such as Bloodline Detectives, The Truth About My Murder and Judge Judy.
While PBS America offers documentaries, history programmes, and current affairs such as The Countdown to War, Deadliest Volcanoes, and Your Brain.
Viewers can also enjoy Legend – a channel which features action, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, and cult series’ and movies.
Some of its top shows include Star Trek: The Original Series, The Six Million Dollar Man, and In A Valley Of Violence.
The update is set to hit this week.
As a hybrid platform, Freely has allowed customers with smart TVs to gain numerous Freeview and Freesat channels via internet broadcast since 2024.
The new channels will join Freely’s other services including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and UKTV.
Freely says most TVs should update automatically but if it doesn’t, customers can rescan to update the channel list.
However, it warns users that “charges to internet delivered channels can take up to 24 hours to show on your device.”
As a successor to Freeview, Freely is slowly replacing it with their smart TVs.
To become a Freeview viewer, customers must buy a new TV, as Freeview Play TVs won’t be upgraded to add Freely support.
Another perk of the update includes access to PBS America and Watch Free UK apps in the on-demand section of Freely.
