THEY say that women always go for a partner that reminds them of their father.
And that’s more than true in Lauren’s situation – as her dad and her fiancé look spookily similar.
The similarities between Lauren’s husband-to-be Dan and her dad have long been joked about by people in the comments of her frequent social media posts.
So the couple decided to have some fun as they poked fun at the “lookalike” situation, while also taking part in the viral ‘What did you say about my brother?’ trend.
In a TikTok video, Lauren began lip syncing along to Mufasa track I Always Wanted a Brother, as she said: “I dare you to say that again to my face!”
“What did you say ’bout my brother?” Dan mouthed, pointing at Lauren’s dad.
“That’s not a stray that’s my brother, you stay away from my brother,” he managed to continue through laughter as he pulled his father-in-law to be in for a hug.
Lauren’s dad appeared to be finding the situation equally amusing, while also looking somewhat confused as to what was going on.
Sharing the video on TikTok, Lauren hilariously captioned it: “I mean, I can’t dump him now!”
Despite the fact they were clearly trying to have some fun with the video, the comments section was once again immediately filled with people marvelling at the similarity between the two men – some in ruder ways than others.
“You need help. That’s so weird,” one wrote.
To which Lauren replied: “But they aren’t related and I never knew they looked like each other.
“Everyone else picked up on it!
“Just banter hahahaha!”
Others insisted they’d be doing a DNA test if they were in Lauren’s situation, with one writing: “Hear me out, have you done a 23&me?”
“Did your dad have a secret child?” another wondered.
” I’d be checking DNA!”
“How do you tell them apart?” a third wrote.
What's the psychology behind choosing a partner that looks like your parent?
WHY is it that people often pick a partner who is more than a little similar to their mum or dad?
Well, according to a 2021 paper from University of St. Andrews psychologist David Perrett, it’s largely down to something called “imprinting”.
This process, which happens when we’re babies or toddlers, is based upon the fact that our parents are the first people we trust.
Then, later in life, we subconsciously go on to choose someone who has the features our parents had when we were born – as we feel more inclined to trust them moving forward.
“(It’s) well established that people generally respond positively to familiar stimuli and parental traits may be very salient familiar features,” Perrett wrote in the study.
“Individuals may choose partners who possess similar colour traits to their parents because they initially appear more familiar than prospective mates with different colour traits.”
“Are they not twins?” someone else marvelled.
“Like they literally could pass as twins.
“If you told me they were identical twins, I would not question it!”
“Sex must be awkward,” another joked.
As someone else said: “Imagine she screams dad by mistake!”
“For real Daddy issues,” another insisted.
“I don’t mean this horribly but i actually think your dad looks younger than your bf,” someone else wrote, hilariously adding: “I need his skincare routine asap hahaha!”
“Noooo I thought it was just trolls but they actually do look alike lol!” another said.
Lauren then returned to the comments to weigh in, as she insisted: “Guys please it’s all jokes!
“Let’s not take it too seriously!”
