Millions eligible to claim CHEAP Amazon Prime subscription for £4.49 – it even comes with rare six-month free trial

MAKE sure that you’re not accidentally overpaying for Amazon Prime to the tune of £54 a year.

There’s a special cheaper membership that millions of Brits are eligible to claim, dramatically reducing the monthly and yearly cost.

Normally Amazon Prime costs £95 annually – or £8.99 a month, equivalent to £107.88 over 12 months.

It gets you loads of perks, including unlimited one-day delivery, access to Prime Video for streaming, Amazon Music, and special access to deals.

And there’s a way to bag a Prime membership for just £47.49, which is half price.

Alternatively you could pay £4.49 each month, coming in at £53.88 over the year.

Either way, it’s a major savings, and there’s a good chance that you or someone you know is eligible to claim.

HALF-PRICE PRIME – WHO CAN GET IT?

There are two ways to bag the deal.

The clue is in the name: the membership is called Prime for Students and 18-22 Year-Olds.

It was originally just for students, but it was extended to cover all 18 to 22-year-olds last summer.

For students, you’ll need to have an Amazon UK account and be enrolled in a higher education institution.

Importantly, that institution needs to be geographically located in either the UK or Ireland.

You’ll also need an email address associated with that institution. Don’t worry if yours doesn’t offer one: you can email Amazon with proof that you’re studying there instead.

If you’re not a student and you want the 18-22 membership, you’ll just need an Amazon UK account and documented proof of age – like a passport or driving licence.

Students will be able to keep their discounted rate for their full education, or for up to four years.

And if you signed up as an 18-22-year-old, you’ll lose your rate when you turn 23.

HOW TO ENROL IF YOU'RE A STUDENT WITH NO OFFICIAL EMAIL

Here's what you need to know...

If you don’t have an official recognised email for your university or college, there’s still hope.

You can send proof of age and enrolment to amazon-student-verification@amazon.co.uk.

Make sure that you’re messaging from the email address linked to your Amazon UK account (and that the account has an up-to-date payment method).

And attach a scan, photo, or screenshot of either:

  • A valid NUS Extra, NUS Apprentice Extra, TOTUM, TOTUM Student or TOTUM Apprentice card (must show your name, institution, and date of expiry). Please note that TOTUM Pro/Professional or UNiDAYS ID cards are not accepted.
  • A proof of student status letter (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and start date, expected graduation/completion date).
  • A tuition bill for the current term (must include institution name, course details and start date, student address).
  • A tuition invoice for the current term with your name and your institution’s name on it.
  • An official acceptance letter for the upcoming term (must be printed on official institution headed paper and include student name and address, course details and enrollment date, expected graduation/completion date).

If you’re eligible then you should get an email back in a few days to help you complete your sign-up.

The maximum amount of time you can keep your half-price Prime membership is six years.

There are plenty of shoppers that should be eligible to claim the deal: government figures suggest there were 2.94 million students at UK higher education institutions in 2022/2023.

Amazon’s discounted Prime membership page is here – but make sure you read about the differences below first.

CHEAP PRIME DIFFERENCES REVEALED

A Half-Price Prime membership isn’t exactly the same as regular Prime.

Amazon

For a start, you get a much bigger trial period.

Normally a Prime trial only lasts for 30 days, but the discounted membership comes with an enormous six-month free trial.

Compared to the full regular Amazon Prime price, that’s saving you £53.94.

But there are some catches.

HOW MUCH DOES AMAZON PRIME COST?

Here's what you need to know about Amazon Prime pricing in the UK...

A standard Amazon Prime membership costs £8.99 a month – that’s £107.88 over the course of a year.

If you pay annually, you’ll be billed £95 instead.

For TV fans who just want Amazon Prime Video without a full Prime membership, it’ll cost you £5.99 a month, working out at £71.88 for the year.

Students can get discounted Amazon Prime, with the monthly cost reduced to £4.49 (or £53.88 over the course of a year).

And for students who pay annually, the one-off yearly fee is £47.49.

You can’t invite other people in your home to share your Prime membership.

There’s no access to the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

And you’ll only get a single one-month Twitch channel subscription. Regular Prime gives you a fresh one every month.

Other than those differences, it’s mostly the same benefits.

The Sun recently revealed how you might be missing out on claiming over £162 worth of Amazon Prime freebies that you’re already paying for.

That includes cheap cinema tickets and even free video games.
