English seaside town loved by UK footballers reveals £10million beach revamp plans

THE National Trust beach of Formby in Liverpool is getting a well-needed facelift.

Found in Sefton, the stretch of Formby coastline attracts millions of tourists every year.

Not all of the beach is open or able to explore due to all the rubble on the sand[/caption]

But locals and visitors sadly don’t have access to the entire beach due to safety issues.

There is a portion sectioned off due to overspilling rubble left from a former army barracks.

The bricks of the old Harington Barracks, which was demolished after World War Two, were used to create the car park on Victoria Road.

However, the changing beach has meant that lots of the rubble has fallen onto the beach front.

The National Trust project to restore the beach and move the car park further inland and away from the beach front, will start in May.

The entire project is expected to be finished in spring 2026.

Until that time, visitors will not be able to access Victoria Road beach car park or the toilets.

National Trust ranger Justin Matthews said the plan is to “remove all of the rubble” and “restore this [beach] to sand dunes”.

They hope it will encourage more visitors but also encourage wildlife to flourish again, particularly “for sand lizards and natterjack toads”.

The project is part of a wider conservation initiative costing £10m to restore sand dune ecosystems around the country.

Formby hasn’t just got a stunning coastline, it also a celebrity hotspot, particularly for footballers.

Victoria Road in Formby is also known as “Millionaire’s Row” and has been a very popular place for footballers over the years.

Former Liverpool football manager Jurgen Klopp once called Victoria Road home, and moved into a mansion on the road in 2015.

The sprawling house had a swimming pool, bar area and gymnasium.

That very same house had previously been lived in by Brendan Rodgers and Steven Garrard.

Celebrity power couple Coleen Rooney and Wayne Rooney were also once residents and moved onto the road in 2004 after they got married.

Their house was described as being the size of 25 football pitches, with six bedrooms, a pool, and spa. The couple have since moved to Cheshire.

Back in 2006, there was a Christmas party on the street, where the Sugababes performed along with Will Young and Charlotte Church.

Other footballers who have lived in Formby include Alan Ball, Mario Balotelli, Ross Barkley, Fabio Borini, Andy Carroll, Ray Clemence, and Joe Cole.

Here are some of the other stunning and warmest beaches we’ve found in the UK.
