Princess Anne lifts lid on brush with death after ‘being struck by horse’ & ‘still can’t remember what happened’
PRINCESS Anne says her brush with death in a suspected horse accident has reminded her every day is a bonus.
The King’s sister, 74, says she cannot remember what happened when she was knocked out last year.
But despite being concussed, badly bruised and spending five nights in hospital, she believes she has no long-lasting effects.
Anne joked: “As far as I know nobody else thinks so — or they haven’t been honest enough to tell me yet. So far so good.
“You are sharply reminded that every day is a bonus.”
The incident happened when Anne went to feed chickens at her Gatcombe Park estate, Gloucs.
It is thought she was struck by a horse.
The hard-working royal, who takes on more engagements than any other member of her family, was sidelined for three weeks after the June accident.
At the end of a two-day tour of South Africa this week, she said all she could recall was going to feed her chickens.
The Princess Royal said she was not going to see horses — but was not on her usual route.
She added: “It just reminds you, shows you, you never quite know, something happens and you might not recover.
“You’re jolly lucky if you can continue to be more or less compos mentis, and last summer I was very close to not being. Take each day as it comes, they say.”
But asked if she intended to retire, she replied: “It isn’t really an option, no.”
