Nicola will share the screen alongside actor and comedian Jemaine Clement, whose acting credits include Hollywood blockbuster Men In Black and smash-hit children’s movie Moana.
Called Alice and Steve, the new show is in its early days, with the remaining cast list yet to be finalised.
A TV insider said: “Nicola Walker is an extremely talented and versatile actor and is widely respected in the industry and loved by viewers at home.
“Disney securing her for one of their new comedies is seen as a big win for the streamer, who are equally delighted to have signed up Jemaine.
“Pre-production has just kicked off on Alice and Steve and some contracts are yet to be finalised, as well as scripts and the filming schedule.
“Bosses are hoping the cameras will be rolling just before the summer, with the show likely to go out in 2026.”
Last year Nicola transformed into Lady Elizabeth Hatton for Sky TV’s raunchy period series Mary and George, based on King James I’s reign.
Nicole has also played divorce lawyer Hannah Stern in BBC’s The Split, starring alongside Stephen Mangan, her estranged on-screen husband Nathan.
The steamy legal drama ran for three series and followed the lives of the Defoe family – from affairs, heartbreak to family woes.
Fans were left in tears as the hit – which also featured Deborah Findlay and Anthony Head – returned for a two-part finale.
Set in Barcelona, it was set around Hannah and Nathan’s eldest daughter Liv, who was preparing to wed her Spanish boyfriend Gael.
The family’s trip wasn’t smooth sailing, however, and the show didn’t end with a reunion between the former couple, which fans had hoped for.
Instead, Hannah found happiness with new man Archie following a romantic conversation in the darkness on the beach.
Nicola snagged her first major television roles in 1997, as Gypsy Jones in Channel 4’s adaptation of A Dance To The Music Of Time, and teacher Suzy Travis in two series of Steven Moffat’s school-sitcom Chalk.
