Ryanair scraps all flights to European city from next month… with no other direct UK routes

RYANAIR has confirmed that all flights to a European city are being cancelled.

The low-cost airline is scrapping flights to and from Aalborg, after Denmark announced new aviation taxes.

The new tax has introduced a 50DKK (£5.57) fee for all passengers departing Denmark, which is paid for by airlines.

The cancellation will see the London Stansted to Aalborg route scrapped from next month.

This is a blow to Brits who can currently fly to the Danish city for just £14.99 with Ryanair.

When the route stops, there will be no other direct flights from the UK.

Ryanair has since said they will also be closing its base at Billund airport, which has two aircraft.

The cancellations will see 32 routes cancelled, with 1.7million fewer seats.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “We are very disappointed to announce the closure of our 2 aircraft Billund base and our operations at Aalborg from the end of March, but we have been left with no other choice following the Danish Govt’s short-sighted decision to introduce a harmful aviation tax from Jan 2025.”

The Danish city of Aalborg – the fourth largest in Denmark – has previously been named the happiest city in the world, as well as the best for quality of life.

Brits who want to travel there after March will need to change at Amsterdam or Copenhagen, with the cheapest flight £81 each way.

It’s not the only flight route that has been cancelled by Ryanair.

The Irish airline confirmed that their Bournemouth to Agadir route has been scrapped.

Having only launched the flight to the Moroccan city back in April 2024, it was the 19th new destination to fly from the regional airport.

Ryanair has slammed the new Air Passenger Duty fees that will be introduced from April 2026, which will see a 15 per cent rise on most flights.

In better news, Ryanair has confirmed five new routes are launching from London Stansted.

The new routes include flights to Reggio Calabria in Italy, which have launched today along with Linz in Austria.

Flights to Clermont-Ferrand in France and Munster in Germany will launch on March 30.

And from April 1, flights to Lubeck, another German city, will operate from London Stansted.

Advice for flying with Ryanair

  • All Ryanair passengers can bring a small personal bag on board but this must fit under the seat in front of you, but it must be no bigger than 40cm x 20cm x 25cm
  • Any over-sized cabin bags will be refused at the boarding gate and put in the hold for a fee
  • Ryanair also charges passengers up to £55 check-in at the airport
  • Anyone who loses their card at the airport will have to pay a £20 reissue fee
  • Book to sit in the front five rows if you want to head off the plane first
  • Extra legroom seats can be found in rows 1 A, B, C or 2 D, E, F as well as row 16 and 17 near the emergency exit
  • The worst seat on Ryanair’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft is also 11A because of its lack of window.

Here are some other new flight routes launching this year.
