Netflix viewers ‘scared for their lives’ after rediscovering axed chilling horror series with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score
NETFLIX viewers have been left ‘scared for their lives’ after rediscovering a chilling series on the streamer.
French horror drama Marianne debuted back in 2019 – although it was axed after one series.
Its synopsis reads: “Lured back to her hometown, a famous horror writer discovers that the evil spirit who plagues her dreams is now wreaking havoc in the real world.”
Fans of the genre are finding Marianne years later, as it is ranked among Netflix‘s most popular shows.
The series also has an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
One viewer wrote: “Just finished the first episode of #Netflix’s Marianne and I am scared for my life. Good start!”
Another added: “Just finished watching Marianne on Netflix and it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever watched in my whole f***ing life.”
A third audience member remarked: “Possibly the best horror series I’ve ever seen. I’m about to give it a rewatch.”
While a fourth said: “One of the scariest shows I’ve seen. Very well written, acted and directed.”
Legendary novelist Stephen King – well known for several horror novels of his own – also endorsed Marianne.
He penned on X: “If you’re one of those sickos–like me–who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job.
“There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe.”
Other viewers, meanwhile, are disappointed that Marianne didn’t have a longer run.
One wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “Years later and I’m still so furious this show was cancelled. Really, really well done.”
The show’s creator, director and co-writer Sam Bodin previously shared he had planned on “three seasons”.
“At the time, I really wanted to do three seasons. The story in my head takes three seasons, three acts for me. Three big chapters”, he told Bloody Disgusting.
