Wetherspoons menu shake-up as it launches new £2.99 meal deal at 650 pubs

0

WETHERSPOONS is shaking up its menu with a new bargain deal.

Hungry customers will be able to get breakfast for £2.99 or less at more than 650 branches of the popular pub,

Diners can get the breakfast until midday for cheap at 650 Wetherspoons pubs

You can choose from a breakfast muffin or small breakfast for that price, and it comes with a soft drink or hot drink.

That includes a tea, coffee and hot chocolate, plus you can get as many refills for free.

The muffin comes with a fried egg, Lincolnshire sausage, bacon and american-style cheese slice, not unlike a McDonald’s breakfast McMuffin.

The small breakfast comes with a fried egg, bacon and Lincolnshire sausage too, plus baked beans and a hash brown.

There are also veggie options available on the breakfast menu, which is served between 8am and midday.

Meanwhile tea and toast, which comes with two slices and either jam or marmalade, is just £2.49.

Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin said: “Our pubs are known for offering excellent food and drinks, at great prices.

“We believe that customers will welcome the value-for-money breakfasts in the pubs.”

You won’t find these deals at certain pubs though, including airports and railways stations in Liverpool Street, St Pancras, Victoria and Waterloo.

At a further 117 pubs the price is £3.99 and at three it is £4.99.

We’ve asked ‘Spoons which locations these are and will update when we hear back.

You can find your nearest pub by using the store locator tool on Wetherspoons’ website.

The pub chain previously had the deal on last September and it was running indefinitely, though it’s not clear when it ended.

But customers can now get the bargain breakfast again. No end date has been announced.

Meanwhile anyone wanting to take advantage of the free refills, which are available all year round, without the breakfast will pay £1.71.

The latest deals come after ‘Spoons hiked the price of food and drink by as much as 30p.

That includes free drink refills which were previously £1.56.

Mr Martin said at the time: “Wetherspoon has always tried to remain as competitive as possible. We hope that our prices will still be reasonable in spite of these increases.’’

The announcement from Wetherspoons comes just months after Mr Martin warned the pub chain may hike prices following the Government’s Autumn Budget when tax hikes for employers were announced.

From April, employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) will be hiked from 13.8% to 15% and the threshold at which businesses pay them is being lowered from £9,100 to £5,000.

Many businesses have warned that this will impact prices and plans for store openings and hiring.

But the popular pub chain also revealed that it’s opening 13 new pubs this year – see if one is coming near you.

How can I save money at Wetherspoons?

PUB-GOERS love Wetherspoons for its competitive pricing and low-cost meals - but did you know there are more ways to save money?

Senior consumer reporter Olivia Marshall explains how.

Free refills – Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day.

Check a map – Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other.

So if you’re planning a pint at a Spoons, it’s worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you’re settling in at the cheapest.

Choose your day – Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights.

For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual.

Pick-up vouchers – Students can often pick up voucher books in

their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled.

Get appy – The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table – but you don’t need to be in the pub to use it.

Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.

Check the date – Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.

It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.

As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival.
