A TOP celebrity hairdresser has revealed that he had ‘no idea’ who a very famous client of his was – despite a big tell-tale sign.
Ricky Walters’ own face is becoming increasingly familiar after appearances on Instagram alongside the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Laura Whitmore, Eyal Booker and Iain Stirling.
But while Ricky has an impressive list of celebrity clients, there’s one star he failed to recognise.
While discussing his very impressive career as a hairdresser, Ricky told The Sun: “I used to kind of famously never know who anybody was.
“So there was this one time where I was cutting the hair of a very, very famous tennis player.
“I would do his hair for big tennis matches but didn’t realise at the time.
“So I’d say to him things like ‘what are you up to today, anything nice?’
“And he’d say ‘yeah, I’m going to go and play tennis.’”
Ricky continued: “I always kind of thought that’s a bit of a weird thing to do in central London.
“So I’d say that to him and a hairdresser next to me would elbow me in the ribs.
“Turns out it was Novak Djokovic.”
Novak has been ranked as the world No.1 in men’s singles.
Despite not initially recognising Djokovic, Ricky has continued to work with A-list names, at his much-adored Soho salon.
The salon also boasts a private members club side of the business, dubbed CLUB64.
And Ricky often films videos with the celebs who come to see him.
His Instagram videos with star names feel like a cross between Carpool Karaoke and Gogglebox and are full of revelatory insights and laugh out loud moments.
And Ricky has discussed his close bond with his clients, telling us: “All you have to do is go to our Instagram page, and I think what makes it quite special in Salon 64 is we have such a close relationship with these people that they’re almost like our friends.”
The popular hairdresser also discussed the star whose hair he’d love to get his hands on.
None other than Simon Cowell.
Ricky shared: “I mean, I always used to answer that question with Elton John, because I thought it was a really funny answer, but I’m going to stop using that answer so often now.
“I do always wonder what’s happening with Simon Cowell’s hair. It looks like it’s a really tough head of hair, but I never really set the year thinking I just want to, you know, really get my hands on this one person.
“I think with Simon, he’s always had the same haircut, hasn’t he, or had the same hairstyle. It’s a really tough head of hair.
“It looks, I always think when I see him on TV, like a hard head of hair to cut.”
Looking to the year ahead, the successful salon owner plans to “move Salon 64 into being a name.”
He added: “I think what I want to achieve is, if you were to stop 100 people in London in the street and say ‘have you heard of Salon 64?’ I would like them all, or the majority, to say yes.
“And I also think a huge focus for us this year is our product line.”
