Top 30 food sounds revealed including sizzling eggs and the snap of a biscuit – is your favourite on the list?
BRITS have revealed their favourite sounds in the kitchen, thanks to a study by vegetarian brand Quorn.
The brand’s research followed 2,000 adults and they’ve even created a quiz to test your knowledge of kitchen sounds.
The study revealed that Brits favourite noise in the kitchen is the sound of ice cubes being dropped into a glass of drink.
Hot food sizzling in a pan came in second and butter being spread on toast came in third.
Gill Riley, spokesperson for the nation’s best-selling meat alternative brand, said: “Our kitchen is the heartbeat of most homes, all year round it is filled with sounds and smells that we love, and even more so around Valentine’s Day.
“This definitive list of top sounds is satisfying in itself, showing how many noises we hear and create in the kitchen which make us feel content.
“The crunch, pop or crisp of foods helps inspire what people reach for as a snack or cook up for a family meal.”
Almost a third (33 per cent) revealed they feel hungry after hearing particular ‘food sounds,’ while 47 per cent claim they could recognise culinary noises with their eyes closed.
And nearly half of the group surveyed believed that certain foods taste better because of the sound they make while being cooked.
A quarter of those polled via OnePoll watch ASMR food related content on social media, with 44 per cent of them claiming it’s satisfying and 41 per cent finding it relaxing.
Gill Riley added: “The nation loves listening to and watching food content on social media, proving how satisfying the concept of a good crunch is when biting into a nugget.
“It’s interesting to see how much influence all the senses have on what we eat.
“People are looking for delicious taste that comes with an equally delicious sound and smell.”
Quorn’s research found that 63% of Brits said that their favourite kitchen smell was the scent of freshly baked bread.
The brand’s research came as they launched their new Cheesy Nacho Nugs, which are a perfect addition to a vegetarian Mexican dinner.
Quorn have created a quiz to test shoppers’ kitchen knowledge, alongside the new Nacho Nugs.
The Ultimate Kitchen Sounds Quiz is available to play on Quorn’s website and asks players to name everyday kitchen sounds.
