Shamed Labour politician ‘sexually abused three young girls before being jailed for sharing child abuse photos’
A SHAMED Labour politician sexually abused three young girls before being jailed for sharing child rape pictures, a court has heard.
Former county councillor Abdul Rahman, 36, denies the historic allegations which date back to when he was aged between 12 and 25.
The three alleged victims came forward after learning he had been jailed for three years for possessing and distributing child abuse images of both boys and girls.
He was elected to Newport City Council in May 2012 but resigned after his arrest over the photos in October 2021.
Prosecutor James Wilson said: “He pleaded guilty to those charges in May of 2022 and he was then sentenced for those offences at the end of May 2022.
“We submit that information obviously provides the background against which these allegations came to light and came to the attention of the police.”
“The defendant does have a sexual interest in children and he is guilty of the alleged offences.”
Rahman, now of Blackwood, Gwent, denies the three charges against him at Cardiff crown court.
In his defence, Rahman was asked if he had ever behaved inappropriately towards any of the girls.
“No, never,” he replied.
The defendant also rejected the claim he had a sexual interest in children.
The trial continues.
