PORT CLINTON — Lake Erie’s western basin is flush with small walleye, the products of the prodigious hatch classes of 2014 and 2015. This abundance of fish that are under the 15-inch minimum size has been a source of frustration for some anglers, while other fishermen have been able to shrug off the continuous parade of “shorts,” well aware that those millions of young fish will form the foundation of a very rich fishery in the years to come.

■ Lake Erie: The walleye anglers are having some success southeast of “K” can of the Camp Perry firing range, according to the experts at Netcraft, who also recommend working the waters between North Bass Island and Gull Island Shoal. Most walleye anglers are trolling or casting harnesses tipped with night crawlers. Wildwood Anglers guide Brad Dunkle reported taking some keeper-size walleye while casting diving crankbaits at night off Middle Bass Island.
