Fiyero Voted Sexiest Man in Oz

Ahead of his impending nuptials to Glinda Upland, Winkie Prince Fiyero Tigelaar was voted People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” on November 4. By which we mean, of course Wicked and Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey was declared this year’s hottest thing walking, joining the ranks of previous winners including George Clooney, Denzel Washington, and Blake Shelton (don’t shoot the messenger). Bailey makes history as the first openly gay man to be declared the “Sexiest Man Alive” by the magazine. And he did it in the gayest way possible: starring in a musical in which his character can’t decide which diva he’s more obsessed with, the belter or the soprano. “I’m sort of thrilled that People magazine has invited someone in and bestowed this honor on someone who can really cherish the value of a sexy man,” Bailey said in a November 3 Tonight Show interview. Cue up Troye Sivan’s “Bloom.”

“Obviously I’m incredibly flattered,” Bailey said when People asked him about winning the award. “And it’s completely absurd. [Laughs] It’s been a secret, so I’m quite excited for some friends and family to find out.” He added that, due to the nondisclosure agreement, he hadn’t told anybody except his dog, Benson, who he posed with for one of the covers (while shirtless). We’re getting word he just went up on the sexy-o-meter as we speak.

It’s a good week overall for Fiyero press. On Sunday, Broadway’s current Fiyero, Jordan Litz, ran the New York City Marathon, then performed a two-show day. For his efforts, Litz scored coverage in the New York Times and People, on NBC News, and more. The people yearn for a man who dances (or endurance runs) through life.
