WCS BECOMES A HAVEN FOR SPEED
W
Written By: William Burkhart
After 2 weeks of downpour and even a late shower on race day Orrville’s Historic Dirt Oval comes alive again.
While not racing for points the Pine Tree Towing sprint cars still had a strong 17 car field. Ricky Peterson would dominate on the start. Lap 2 would see the first Bucks Auto Sales red flag as Cody Bova would snag a rut and end up on his side. The racing would resume once more. On lap 13 another red would fly as a fire would break out under the 38K. Myers would climb out unharmed. Peterson would still have a great restart over Jordan Ryan and TJ Michael. Peterson would go on to lead all 25 laps and pick up his second win of 2024. “I love this place. When I first got a 410 we raced here and I just fell in love with this place” Peterson added in Summit Racing Equipment victory lane.
Malcuits Tavern UMP Late Models would hit the track next. The 25-lap feature would see Moore getting an early lead. The battle for second would be a three-car duel between Ryan Markham, Dave Hornikel, and JR Gentry. Towards the end of the race a handful of yellows would continually stack up the field. Moore would get amazing drives off every restart with Ryan Markham following in second to the finish. Dave Hornikel would fend off Gentry for a third and earn Porkchops sweet move of the race. When Moore was asked about his recent switch from Rocket to Longhorn Moore said “These guys either need to join or they are going to behind and be in big [trouble]”
Nate Young and NY racer Greg Johnson would lead the field to green in the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service UMP Modifieds. NY Racers Greg and Zach Johnson would hold second and third respectively with Ryan Markham unable to get by. Young would dominate to get his first win of 2024. “This place fits my driving style so well, it’s always right up next to the guardrail.”
The Glass House Super Stocks would see Veteran racer Charlie Duncan cruise to an easy victory with a war for second. Kyle McAfee, Braden Tucke. And Don Baney would trade slide jobs back and forth all race long before Braden Tucke would ultimately grab second and Kyle McAfee in third. “It feels great to get back here in victory lane. Its been about 3 or 4 years since I’ve won here” Charlie added in his Victory Interview.
Joyride Transport Mini Stocks would be the final feature of the night Doug Hensel, Johnny Bruce Sr., Anthony Collins, and Billy Dawson would battle it out for the the lead spot until lap 3 when Dawson would unfortunately break. Bruce, Hensel, and Collins would all throw down for the rest of the race. Hensel even threw his 18 machine into turn one like it was a late model. In the end Collins would be the one to fend off the field for his second win of 2024. “What a great year we are having, this is so much fan man!” and excited Collins would share in Victory Lane. Doug Hensel came home second with Bruce in third.
Wayne County Speedway is back on May 25th for Whites Ford Night which will include all five divisions and King of The County for Modified and Late Models.
