China retaliates regarding Trump tariffs, levies 15 percent on U.S. goods
China has apparently decided it can win against the U.S. in a tariff war. The 10 percent tariff President Trump levied on China has started. In fact, there are packages from China and Hong Kong that USPS is suspending “until further notice,” according to CNBC.
China’s Finance Ministry is applying a 15 percent tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas imports from the United States. It’s also imposing a duties increase of 10 percent on American oil, agricultural machinery and certain cars, starting on February 10th. China will also impose export controls on multiple other products and items, according to CNBC.
China’s lead economist at Oxford Economics, Louise Loo said China’s present tariffs are a “symbolic move for now” but that a trade war is “in the early stages,” and that it’s “a very high likelihood” tariffs are going to be increasing in the near future.
