Trump: The EO machine

Editor’s note: The powers that be at WND.com have told Michael Ackley he may submit the occasional column. As Golden State madness has accelerated, Ackley continues to give in to the urge to stay in the game. Hence, the items below. Remember that his columns may include satire and parody based on current events, and thus mix fact with fiction. He assumes informed readers will be able to tell the difference.

President Trump has trundled out executive orders at an unprecedented pace, putting us in mind of Niccolo Machiavelli, who wrote in “The Prince,” “Any cruelty has to be executed at once, so that the less it is tasted, the less it offends; while benefits may be dispensed little by little, so that they will be savored all the more.”

Depending on the point of view, you could argue Trump is following this advice. He certainly is cruel to his opponents. Witness Democratic U.S. senators like Charles Schumer and Corey Booker, writhing like insects pinned to an entomologist’s board in their anguish over the president’s executive orders.

But it could be argued with greater force that Trump is accomplishing national benefits faster than the measured pace Machiavelli recommended. We’d take that side of the debate.

Bye bye, DEI: Proving they are not slaves to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, members of the Democratic National Committee have picked a couple of white guys to lead the party.

Nevertheless, former Vice President Kamala Harris remains the focus of speculation about what she will do next, after leading the Democratic Party into the abyss last November.

You know: Will she again seek the presidency? Will she and Hilary Clinton form a “we almost made it” sorority? Will she settle for the governorship of California?

She wouldn’t have an unobstructed path to the Democratic nomination should she choose the latter. There already are half a dozen potential candidates, representing a pretty good cross section of the party of splinter groups and seeking to become generalissimo/a of DEIA.

That would be “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. The way things are going, we shouldn’t be surprised if that movement adds a plus sign, like LGBTQIA+. (If you aren’t up to date on this ever-expanding abbreviation: We’re informed it stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual. The plus stands for “all of the other identities not encompassed in the short acronym.” Some usages also add a “/A” for Aromantic. Stay tuned.)

Rob Bonta, California’s AG (that just means “attorney general,” no +), recently dropped out of the contest, demonstrating he is smart enough to know the election in 2026 will still be in the shadow of Trump. Gubernatorial prospects for Los Angeles Mayor Karen “I am not a communist” Bass just went up in the smoke of the L.A. wildfires.

It’s a pity that Bonta is out. It looked like he was preparing to run on a DEI and pro-illegal immigrant platform. In fact, he has promulgated more than 250 pages of advice on how legally to stall or obstruct federal authorities as they attempt to enforce national immigration laws.

How to clean it up: As the president’s Department of Government Efficiency is trying a number of tactics to get rid of the dead wood in our Byzantine bureaucracy, thousands of Deep State parasites are deserting the federal ship.

Naturally, some are trying to fence off DOGE, defending the work-from-home faction as dedicated workers without whom our government would to a hopeless mess … as it is now. They are at a disadvantage, because battalions of them actually do nothing for their pay.

Let us suggest: Simply demand that all federal employees present a tangible work product from the previous year. Throngs won’t have anything to present. Let them go.
