‘None of us wants to go back’: Lockdown queen Gretchen Whitmer dismisses her illogical COVID restrictions

Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer dismissed the nonsensical COVID-19 pandemic restrictions she implemented in her state during a Monday episode of “Financial Audit.”

Whitmer imposed some of the strictest lockdown measures during the height of the pandemic. When host Caleb Hammer said on his podcast that it was frustrating for him to return home to Michigan and eat “in inside pods outside,” Whitmer responded that her government was operating on dismal information.

“I’ll be honest. I was a little annoyed when I came home for Christmas two years in a row,” Hammer said. “Like, we had to eat outside, but we were in inside pods outside.”

“At home, in Michigan, in the winter, we’re all inside, breathing on each other,” Whitmer replied.

Hammer did not appear satisfied with Whitmer’s response.

“But if I was allowed to be inside outside, why couldn’t I just be inside inside?” he asked.

“Because you were inside outside with just your small group of people,” Whitmer said.

However, Hammer noted that he was also around wait staff.

“Listen, Caleb, none of us wants to go back and relive that,” Whitmer said. “We were doing the best we could with very little — or very bad —information.”

While Hammer said he accepted the governor’s answer, he repeated that he recalled being “annoyed” with the restriction.

Whitmer apologized on May 23, 2021, after getting caught breaching her own pandemic restrictions by dining maskless indoors with at least a dozen people at The Landshark Bar & Grill in East Lansing, Michigan. Michigan’s May 15, 2021, order required that no more than six individuals be seated at the same table.

Whitmer’s administration rescinded the rule that she broke on May 24, 2021. The governor faced significant backlash during the pandemic for restrictions that forced numerous Michigan restaurants and businesses to close.

Whitmer also signed a 2020 order preventing Michiganders from visiting their vacation rentals and from traveling “between two residences” in Michigan. Moreover, she did not deny that her husband sought special treatment and tried to persuade a Michigan dock company to enable him to take the family boat out for Memorial Day Weekend in 2020.

She also took a trip to Florida in March 2020. Shortly after, she appeared on “Meet the Press” and urged people to specifically avoid traveling for spring break in Florida.

Furthermore, Whitmer attended former President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021, spurning her own pandemic guidelines.

She also issued an executive order in April 2020 that deemed several home-improvement and gardening items, like fruit and vegetable seeds, as “non-essential.”
