Democrat Mikie Sherrill defeats Republican Jack Ciattarelli for New Jersey governor
In the heated race for New Jersey governor, Democrat Mikie Sherrill defeated Republican Jack Ciattarelli Tuesday night.
Sherrill, a U.S. congresswoman and former Navy helicopter pilot collected about 57% of the vote compared to 42.6% for the GOP businessman who was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

“New Jersey, it is the honor of my life to earn your trust to become this great state’s 57th Governor,” Sherrill said. “I promise to listen, lead with courage, and never forget who I serve.”

“I’m filled with gratitude,” she added. “This campaign has been a love letter to you, New Jersey. Thank you for sharing your dreams and fears, and thank you especially to everyone who chipped in, volunteered, and trusted me with their vote.”
Sherrill raised eyebrows recently when she was confronted about making $7 million in stock trades, suggesting she was not aware of the claim.
“I don’t believe I did, but I’d have to go see what that was alluding to,” she said.
