If I Did It: UFC is now co-promoting Mayweather vs McGregor
Welcome to http://BloodyElbow.com's If I Did It, the show where we discuss PR kerfluffles from the world of MMA and beyond. This week it's pretty much all Mayweather vs McGregor.
Alexei Auld is back with a brand new book available 7 Secret Sources of Inspiration: A Snappy Guide for Creative Procrastinators to grill Eugene S. Robinson (who’s pushing OXBOW's new record THIN BLACK DUKE) and me, Kid Nate, with some PR stumpers from the world of combat sports. Collectively we are the MMA Puncholes.
For the audio only version check us out on SoundCloud and be sure to subscribe to MMA NATION on iTunes and subscribe to MMA Nation on YouTube so you'll never miss an episode. This week's kerfuffles include:
You’re Conor McGregor. Your former sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi is looking for a fight with you, live and in public, if you will. Walk us through the PR pros and cons of taking him up on his offer.
You’re Dana White. After you released sparring footage of Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi, the Magic Man put you on blast, “(Y)ou bitchass you were actually there and saw all 12 rounds. Really you fuckin cue ball ass fraud? Kissin my ass after the 12rds.” As the UFC’s Bull of the Woods, is it worth your while to respond?
You’re WME-IMG. UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones told MMA Junkie, “Looking at it from a business standpoint, it’s not a really good idea to pay nine percent to the state of New York off the top just for fighting here. With nine percent of every $1 million, that will add up real quick.” Are you concerned about other marquee UFC fighters avoiding fights in the Big Apple?
You’re Cody Garbrandt. As if aping Conor McGregor’s look wasn’t enough, you jacked the MayMac fight promo by calling Aljamain Sterling “boy” multiple times on Twitter. Sterling tweeted, “Wrong or not. He ain't dumb. That's some DUMB ass shit to say. Talk shit. Leave the racial connotations OUT of it.” In wake of last weekend’s explosive racial violence in Charlottesville, do you need to make amends?
