#EquallyAmazing as the EHF announces its 2021 officials
The EHF has today announced its 2021 officials for the EuroHockey Championship (men and women) events.
We are delighted that the team for the EuroHockey Championships will be led by the equally amazing Sonja-Annabell Schwede (GER) and Steve Catton (ENG) as our Technical Delegates.
In advance of the announcement, we caught up with them to chat about what their appointments mean to them.
Sonja said “I am delighted to be appointed as TD for such a high-Level event in Europe. Working as an official for about 11 years now it is the next step for me to become TD on this Level.
The actual situation with hockey under special circumstances this year gives us the chance to make the Championship 2021 a great event and bring us all back together for a big celebration of Hockey as we all love it. Hockey is a sport for the whole family and connects gender equality which the EHF stands for. I love to work in mixed teams and learn from each other as we did several events before.
I appreciate having Steve at my side. We have worked together several times, the last events where we have shown our Teamwork was the Champions Trophy in Breda and the EHF TO Seminar in The Hague. Both Events in the Netherlands which have been great so perhaps it is a sign to have the Championships in the Netherlands, too.
Teamwork between the TDs doesn‘t make the event successful. It is the Team of Officials and Umpires (the 3rd Team), the Volunteers and Organising Committee which are responsible for the surroundings. And then the Teams and spectators which make it to a celebration of Hockey. So hopefully next year will be again a great Hockey and Sports Year.
Steve added “Like Sonja, I am delighted and excited to be appointed as TD to the top hockey event in Europe in 2021 and look forward to working with colleagues from KNHB and around Europe, as well as jointly with my friend and fellow TD Sonja.
This will be a very special and significant event for all participants bringing together the top European teams in the magnificent Wagener Stadium to celebrate that hockey is back after the global challenges of this year.”
All appointments will be available on AWS from today and will display in the front of the site as soon as our cohort of officials accepts appointments.
We are only announcing the EuroHockey Championship event today, all other appointments will be announced later in September.
