UEFA will lose €575 million from television amid pandemic
Andrea Agnelli, Chairman of the Association of European clubs, spoke about the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
Since the Champions League and Europa League draws were Interrupted due to restrictions, UEFA will miss €575 million in revenue from TV companies, Showsport.me reports.
The tournaments were played later, but in a different format with fewer matches.
"We saw that the Premier League lost 330 million and the Bundesliga lost 200 million. We will now agree with UEFA on figures that will reduce payments for TV rights to the Champions League and Europa League by 575 million. This money will not be distributed" Agnelli said.
At the same time, it is still unclear whether this amount will be compensated exclusively from the clubs' income or from the share of UEFA itself, too.
Initially, clubs participating in International tournaments had to share the prize money of €2.55 billion.
The total revenue of the European Cup was estimated at €3.25 billion.
