After more than a decade with the program, Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga is reportedly stepping down.

Larrañaga joined the staff at Miami in 2011 and was the head coach for more than a dozen years. He helped lead his team to the Final Four in 2023, though the team did not cut down the nets.

The coach previously had a similarly impressive tournament run at George Mason, where he was head coach between 1997 and 2011, in 2006.

He was also the head coach at Bowling Green (between 1986 and 1997) as well as American International (between 1977 and 1979). During his time as an assistant coached, Larrañaga worked at Virginia and Davidson.

Now at 75 years old, per ESPN, he could step down as soon as Thursday.

His expected replacement is Bill Courtney, who was the associate head coach for the staff. Courtney has worked at Miami since 2019, serving as one of the assistant coaches on staff.

Courtney was a head coach in the Ivy League for Cornell between 2010 and 2016.

He also brings experience as an assistant for DePaul, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Providence, George Mason, Bowling Green, and American.

His time with Larrañaga overlapped at Bowling Green in 1996-97 and then at George Mason from 1997 until 2005. He is known as the lead recruiter on the staff.

Courtney was a point guard and team captain at Bucknell, where he had set various scoring records.
