Regional unification bout set for Phoenix Battle Seoul in April

0
Earlier today Ohashi Boxing Gym announced the main bouts for their next foray into South Korea, under the "Phoenix Battle Seoul" banner, with the show set to take place in Gangnam, on April 26th. The show, the latest in a line of Ohashi fronted, or co-promoted, Korean cards sees the former world champion continue to help rebuild the floundering Korean boxing scene.

The main event of the card is a truly compelling match up, pitting Japanese veteran Yuki Nonaka (38-12-3, 11) [野中悠樹], the current OPBF Super Middleweight champion, against the hard hitting WBO Asia Pacific champion Deok No Yun (9-2, 7) [윤덕노]. The bout, which will see the two regional titles being unified, is a really intriguing one from a stylistic point of view, with the 29 year old Yun being a hard hitting boxer-puncher who is happy to take risks, taking on a 47 year old who is very much a relaxed boxer with buckets of experience. Yun is best known for his loss to Koki Tyson in 2024, a wild 1 round shootout, but he did avenge that loss and reclaimed the WBO Asia Pacific title. As for Nonaka he has only been stopped twice since his debut back in 1999, the first of those in 2002, to Masahiro Muroya, and the second in 2022 in an upset loss to Hiroya Nojima. He beat Sam Soliman last year to become the oldest Japanese fighter to win a title recognised by the JBC.

The other main bout, the chief support bout, will see the hotly tipped Ryang Ho Han (3-0, 2) [韓亮昊] take in once beaten Filipino Ramil Roda (7-1-2, 4), with the men fighting for the IBF International Super Flyweight title. Han has been regarded as a fighter who will be fast tracked since his debut, following a 71 fight amateur career. He fought 3 times last year, over opponents with a combined 70-18-6 record, and will be looking to fight not just for the IBF International title this year, but also more notable and prestigious belts. As for Roda he won just 1 of his first 4 fights, but has now gone on a 6 fight winning streak, albeit at a much lower level than Han has been fighting at.
