WBO#2 Kawaura Edges IBF#7 Han, Keeps WBO AP 115lb Belt

WBO#2 Ryusei Kawaura (15-2, 9 KOs; amateur 38-14), 114.75, barely kept his WBO Asia Pacific junior bantam belt when he almost dropped IBF#7 Ryang-Ho Han (5-1, 3 KOs; amateur 52-19) twice in round three, withstood the challenger’s last surge and eked out a split decision (97-93, 96-94 for him; 94-96 against him) over ten hard-fought all-southpaw bout on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Han, a Japan-born Korean, was more aggressive in later rounds, while Kawaura, a slick-punching lefty, was more accurate in mixing up with the taller challenger.
