The iconic “Iron Mike” Tyson was in high spirits as he shared his new “passion project,” which launches this week — the Mike Tyson Invitational (MTI) — geared toward elite amateur fighters over three days (March 12–14). The event will include mentorship from Tyson, fan engagement, and, of course, high-level competition. Tyson said the motivation came after visiting youth at Hall of Fame referee Richard Steele’s gym in Las Vegas, and he will present the most outstanding fighter with the Richard Steele “Will of Steele” Award.

Tyson also dove into his amateur boxing days and shared an intimate story about sparring in front of his trainer Cus D’Amato for the first time, as well as the impact the GOAT, Muhammad Ali, had on him from a young age.

Tyson talked about who he believes is the “new face of boxing” and about a potential exhibition with Floyd Mayweather. He also shared his thoughts on Mayweather suing Showtime for a reported $340 million and mentioned his own issues with promoters during his career when it came to money.
