Report: Giants reach one-year deal with closer Smith to avoid arbitration
The Giants kept an impressive streak alive Friday when they reportedly reached a one-year, $4.225 million contract agreement with closer Will Smith. For the 15th consecutive offseason, the Giants will not take a player into a salary-arbitration hearing.
USA Today reported the agreement and the salary figure.
Meanwhile, the A’s announced they had reached one-year deals with five of their six remining arbitration-eligible players: DH Khris Davis, pitcher Sean Manaea, infielders Jurickson Profar and Marcus Semien and outfielder Mark Canha.
Their only remaining arbitration-eligible player is closer Blake Treinen.
The Athletic reported that Canha will get $2.05 million. The other salaries were not immediately known.
