A former Southern California college professor has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and battery in the death of a Jewish counterprotester during demonstrations in 2023 over the Israel-Hamas war. Lawyer Ron Bamieh said Thursday that his client, 53-year-old Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji, agreed to plead guilty and will be sentenced June 25. Nigeria's army says that seven children and two women abducted last month in Nigeria have been rescued by troops. The country's army made the announcement of the rescue in a statement that was dated Wednesday but released on Thursday. Authorities in Kogi state said that gunmen attacked an Islamic orphanage in Lokoja on April 26. The attackers abducted 23 pupils and 15 were immediately rescued. The Trump administration plans to weaken some Biden-era limits on "forever chemicals" in drinking water. An EPA official says the proposal will keep tough standards for two common types of PFAS but delay when those standards will be enforced. The agency will rescind limits on three PFAS types, including GenX substances, and as well as a mix of several and reconsider them.
