Stranger's post inspires flurry of cards for ailing woman
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Tim Bethea doesn't really know Arielle Ponton, but he wanted her to have a good Christmas.
He wants Ponton to know that a lot of people care about her and the struggles she goes through daily fighting a debilitating neurological condition.
So he has asked his friends everywhere to help her in a simple way: To send her a Christmas card with a caring message or even a few dollars.
Bethea, who lives in Bennettsville, S.C., likes to do special things for people. On his 50th birthday, he collected 50 cents each from a wide network of friends and bought an elderly woman three months of groceries.
This year, he heard about Ponton through one of her cousins who is a friend of his.
