Ex-Blackfeet tribal chairman indicted in embezzlement case

0

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — A former Blackfeet tribal chairman has been indicted on charges of theft and fraud in connection with embezzlement from a Head Start program.

The Great Falls Tribune reported Thursday that the indictment accuses Willie Andrew Sharp of illegally approving $232,000 in overtime pay for himself, his wife and other people.

No listed phone number could be found for Sharp, and it wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. He is scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday.

His wife, Denise Sharp, pleaded guilty in December to charges related to the embezzlement. She faces potential prison time and nearly $39,000 in restitution at her March 20 sentencing.
