Death of man in Pittsburgh house fire ruled homicide

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities in western Pennsylvania have ruled the death of a man in a Pittsburgh house fire last summer a homicide.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said Friday that 53-year-old Martin Boehm died Aug. 21 of smoke inhalation and thermal burn injuries.

The office said the injuries occurred early Aug. 17 in a private residence "set on fire."

Fire crews were called to the Carrick home just before 3 a.m. and reported that a woman jumped safely from the roof to escape the blaze.

She told firefighters that three others were inside, and they remained on the scene for hours searching for them. Eventually, officials said, they learned that two other people inside the house were able to get out.
