Source: 49ers interview Wes Welker for spot on offensive staff

The 49ers have interviewed Wes Welker, a Texans assistant coach who went to five Pro Bowls in his 12-year career, for a position on their staff, a league source said.

It’s likely Welker, 37, interviewed with the 49ers for a spot as their wide receivers coach. Mike LaFleur is the team’s current wide receivers coach, but he also has the title of passing-game coordinator and is involved in assisting head coach Kyle Shanahan with game-planning.

Welker has also reportedly interviewed with the Packers.

Welker, a former wide receiver who led the NFL in receptions in three of his six seasons with the Patriots, has spent the past two seasons with Houston since playing his final season in 2015.
