Mississippi charter school agency hires new leader

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The agency that oversees Mississippi's charter schools is hiring a new executive director.

Charter School Authorizer Board Chairman Quentin Ransburg announced Thursday that the board is hiring Lisa Karmacharya.

Ransburg says the board voted Jan. 22 to offer the job to Karmacharya. She will be paid $113,000 annually.

Scheduled to start in the new role on Feb. 18, Karmacharya is currently the executive director of the Mississippi Association of School Administrators. Before that, she was superintendent in Brookhaven and served as a teacher, administrator and principal.
