Giants pick up outfielder John Andreoli on waiver
The Giants added an outfielder Friday, obtaining John Andreoli on waivers from the Rangers, giving the team some potential depth in an area of need.
Andreoli, who was designated for assignment earlier in the week when Texas signed reliever Shawn Kelley, had 67 plate appearances with Baltimore and Seattle in 2018 and hit .230 with an on-base percentage of .284, but he has a lifetime .371 on-base percentage in the minor leagues. The 28-year-old hit .287 at Triple-A Tacoma last season and drew 55 walks in 89 games. A right-handed hitter, Andreoli plays all three outfield spots. He was a 17th-round pick out of UConn in 2011, going to the Cubs.
To make room for Andreoli, designated right-hander Derek Law.
