[Men's Basketball] Mechanics Give Division I Opponent All They Can Handle

Taking on a USCAA Division I opponent is bad enough but taking on a USCAA Division I opponent that is 18-3 and averaging 89 points a game with a roster of just seven players is an almost insurmountable task for any team.  Yet, that is what Williamson faced on Saturday afternoon.  Despite the deck being stacked against them, the Mechanics gave Stratford University a real scare before falling in the end by a score of 68-55.

Spirited play and a tenacious defensive effort was a big key for the Mechanics success, as they held the Cardinals to just 28% shooting from the floor and managed to remain even with them at half, 27-27.

Williamson actually led early in the second half before Strafford would go up by ten with eight minutes to go, only to see Williamson that in half with just 3:30 to play.  At that point foul trouble and lack of depth took its toll, as the Cardinals were able to pull away late to secure the win.

Despite the loss, Williamson managed to hold one of the highest scoring teams in the USCAA to 21 points below their game average, while holding them to just 36% shooting from the floor.  In the end though, Williamson was not able to overcome 19 turnovers.

Gus Pagan (SR/Prospect Park, PA) once again had an outstanding game for Williamson, as he pumped in 20 points, while adding three rebounds.  Ryan Tobin (SR/Newtown Square, PA) also hit double-figures for Williamson as he added 15 points and six rebounds.

Williamson next takes on Delaware County Community College at home in a 7:00 start on Tuesday.
