Virginia House, Senate committees face budget deadline
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia House members are proposing a 5 percent pay raise for state employees as the two chambers' appropriations committees face a deadline to finish their versions of amendments to the state's two-year budget.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the House Appropriations Committee proposed the pay raise, including salary increases in the budget adopted last year.
The House and Senate committees face a midnight deadline to complete work on their versions of amendments.
Legislators are continuing their work as Gov. Ralph Northam faces calls for his resignation. On Friday, Northam apologized for appearing in a racist yearbook photograph, but said on Saturday that he's not in the picture.
