9 fraternity members arrested in Louisiana for hazing crimes
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State University says nine fraternity members have been arrested for hazing-related crimes, in a toughened school approach to such incidents after the 2017 death of a pledge in a fraternity drinking ritual.
The university released a statement Wednesday saying the men arrested, ranging from ages 19 to 23, were members of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
DKE's national organization closed LSU's century-old chapter last month, saying members violated the organization's alcohol and hazing policies. LSU says the hazing allegedly happened last fall, but didn't provide further details.
The nine men were booked on charges ranging from misdemeanor hazing to felony battery and false imprisonment.
