PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Department of Education says the state's second-oldest charter school is failing to provide rigorous science courses among other shortcomings.

The Providence Journal reports the department has issued Times2 STEM Academy in Providence a three-year license renewal instead of a five-year one.

The department says teachers have voted no confidence in school leadership, officials have failed to routinely monitor academic progress and communication with parents is "inconsistent."

School Executive Director Rudolph Moseley says they have begun to address some of the department's complaints.

He says the school has to make "major changes to meet our mission.
