Jesus Luzardo won’t go to Japan with A’s but still in rotation hunt

MESA, Ariz. - Oakland’s rotation is slowly gaining shape, but the biggest unknown remains: Will Jesus Luzardo be a part of it now, or later?

Luzardo, the A’s top prospect, allowed four hits, a walk and one run in the A’s game against the Giants on Sunday at Hohokam Field, and afterward, he told The Chronicle that he has been informed he will not be on the team’s trip to Japan.

That actually might be a good thing for Luzardo when it comes to landing a roster spot: Had he gone to Japan, he wouldn’t have started any of the games there. Remaining behind, he will stay on turn and would be available when the team needs a fourth or fifth starter March 31 or April 1.
