Report: NY Giants trade Odell Beckham Jr. to Browns

Suddenly, the Browns are legitimate championship contenders

Two people familiar with the blockbuster trade say Cleveland has agreed to acquire wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from the New York Giants.

The Browns are sending a first- and third-round pick in 2019 along with safety Jabrill Peppers to the Giants for Beckham, one of the NFL’s top players, said the people who spoke Tuesday night.

The deal is conditional on both players passing physicals.

With the Browns, Beckham will be reunited with receiver Jarvis Landry, a teammate at LSU. Beckham also will give quarterback Baker Mayfield an elite target, and his arrival vaults the Browns, who went 7-8-1 last season after not winning a game in 2017, into a strong threat to win the AFC North.

That wasn’t the only splash made by Browns general manager John Dorsey in this active offseason.

He also is building a fearsome defense. One week after acquiring end Olivier Vernon in a trade, Cleveland added an inside presence to its line by agreeing with free-agent tackle Sheldon Richardson on a three-year, $39 million contract.

Richardson, who has played with three other teams since 2013 and been suspended twice by the NFL, will receive $21.5 million guaranteed.

The Browns also decided to bring back wide receiver Breshad Perriman, who has agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal.

Free-agency moves: The Jets made a splash on the second day of free agency, led by Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley, who will get a reported five years and $85 million, including $51 million guaranteed.

Mosley has had at least 100 tackles in every season but 2016, when he missed two games with an injury and finished with 92. He will be a centerpiece of new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ unit.
